Orlovka – Isaccea Border Crossing – River Ferry

The Orlovka – Isaccea ferry crossing provides a direct and shortest route from Ukraine to Romania, as well as to Southern Europe and Turkey. The drive from Odessa to the Orlovka ferry takes about 4 hours by car.

Route from Odessa to the Orlovka Ferry

  • Google Maps Route: Odessa – Orlovka Ferry
  • From Odessa, head onto the M15 highway.
  • Travel south through villages and small towns.
  • Near the village of Orlovka, follow signs to the ferry terminal.
  • The route passes through a special zone near the village of Mayaki: Ticket System in Mayaki Area:
    • Getting the Ticket: Drivers must obtain a ticket at the checkpoint. The ticket records the number of people in the vehicle.
    • Entering Ukraine: The ticket is issued at the turn near the village of Starokozachye. It must be handed in when entering the special zone in Mayaki, completing the check process.
    • Ticket Exchange When Heading to Orlovka: When heading to Orlovka, give the ticket further at the turn beyond Palanka, near the Starokozachye junction.

Queues and Inspection Process

  • Long queues may form due to vehicle and passenger checks.
  • Trucks follow a separate lane.
  • Men’s documents are checked for mobilization law compliance to ensure they are permitted to leave the country.

Important: Ukrainian citizens with a non-biometric passport require a visa for entry into Romania. Without a visa, entry is not possible.

Vignette and Speed Cameras on the Odessa – Reni Highway

  • The vignette is not checked at the crossing point, but it will be checked by cameras immediately after leaving the checkpoint.
  • Speed control cameras are installed on the Odessa – Reni highway:
    • Sections 80-95 km
    • Sections 115-135 km (Baramcha and Zorya areas)
  • Fines: Speeding fines are issued automatically.

Prohibited Items for Import into Romania

  • Firearms
  • Drugs
  • Some animal products
  • Large sums of cash without declaration (over 10,000 EUR)
  • More than two packs of cigarettes per person (strictly monitored at the border)

Financial Restrictions: Without declaration, you may bring up to 10,000 EUR or an equivalent amount in other currencies per person.

Tinted Windows at the Orlovka – Isaccea Border Crossing

  • Tinted windshields and front side windows are strictly prohibited. Vehicles with such tints will not be allowed into Romania. If your vehicle has tinted windows, they must be removed at the border.

Fine for Tinted Windows in Romania: Fines range from 1300 to 2900 lei (approximately 260–580 EUR), and the vehicle may be taken out of service until the violation is rectified.

Orlovka – Isaccea Border During Curfew

  • The crossing operates during the curfew in Ukraine. However, after customs checks, movement on Ukrainian roads starts at 5 a.m.

Veterinary Services at Orlovka

  • There are no veterinary services at Orlovka, so animals must cross through other checkpoints, such as the Djurdjuleshti.

Document Transport Across the Border

  • Ukrainian law prohibits the transport of identity documents belonging to other people.

Insurance and Vignette for Entry into Romania

  • Tourist Insurance: Can be purchased via the Hotline service or the Privat24 app.
  • Vignette and Tourist Insurance do not need to be printed; digital versions are sufficient.
