Bridge Collapse in Baltimore Due to Collision with Container Ship
A catastrophic incident occurred in Baltimore when the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed following a collision with a large container ship, Dali. The vessel, which measures 300 meters in length and 48 meters in width, was built in 2015 and is registered under the Singapore flag. The collision happened around 1:30 AM, resulting in a significant portion of the bridge falling into the Patapsco River.
At the time of the accident, up to 20 people were reported to be in the water. As search efforts continued, the Governor of Maryland declared a state of emergency. The water temperature in the Baltimore harbor was reported to be around 9-10°C, making the situation even more perilous for those in the water.
The Dali, en route to Sri Lanka, experienced technical malfunctions just one minute before the collision, including a power loss and smoke, which contributed to the accident.
